Ride Update for June 19 to June 25

For directions to our ride start locations, (click here)

Weather - Another week that looks to be soggy. Rain is a possibility every single day so we'll just have to take it day by day! As always, check before you roll!

**********

Tuesday and Thursday - 6:00 - We ride through Berkeley Lake on the way out, then down to Duluth and back around the Pinckneyville athletic fields and down Spalding to the finish. A couple of options allow for a ride distance of between 21 and 25+ miles. You can add Scotts Mill and Hermitage if you crave a few more hills! This ride departs promptly at 6 PM! If you are running late and don't know the intercept points, let me know.

Saturday - 8:00 - Since it looks like y'all improvised last week, let's do the "flat" route, up 141 to Wilson and Abbotts Bridge, then heading up Albion Farm and down to Duluth. After a quick stop at our new coffee/donut shop in downtown Duluth and then we rejoin the classic route through Cardinal and Berkeley Lake and back home. The distance is 34 miles. No drop of course (but we often self seed into faster and slower groups along the way).

Sunday - 7:00 - Expect to do 40+ miles with a slightly faster pace and fewer stops. Exact route TBD at the start. As mentioned above we'll try this a few times and see how it works out.

Ride Descriptions

Every Tuesday and Thursday

Ride time is 6:00 PM (we change the start time to 12:00 when Daylight Saving Time ends).

Join PC3 for a spin around Berkeley Lake. This is a medium intensity tide which avoids most of the rush hour traffic! It is no drop. Plan for about 20 miles and a little more than an hour. We depart from the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church in Peachtree Corners, just north of Dunwoody. For directions, go to:

Every Saturday

This is a great moderate intensity ride! We depart from Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners and do one of three alternating routes. The first, "the classic route" is a 33 mile loop through Peachtree Corners, Berkeley Lake and Duluth. It is fairly hilly but you can skip a couple of the most challenging climbs if it is a recovery day or "you just don't want too). The second is the "flat route" (which is flatter, but definitely not flat). The distance is also around 33 miles. The third is a bit longer and incorporates a long "pan flat time trial stretch along the Hooch (about 10 miles) sandwiched between some challenging hills before and after! All are "no drop" rides, meaning we endeavor to stay together as a group and regroup at turns to make sure no one gets lost. The average speed is 15 MPH and we have a few regroup stops so the ride usually takes about 2 ½ hours.

*Please note that while this ride is a moderate intensity "no drop" social ride, it is definitely not a beginner ride. I'm assuming you have 1) a road bike, 2) a basic understanding of the operation of your bike, including shifting, braking and basic bike handling, and 3) adequate fitness to ride for 90 minutes to 2 hours at an intensity that is equivalent to moderate jogging. If you are uncertain, please contact me and we'll figure it out. I'm also happy to set up a time to work with you on basic bike skills.

Every Sunday

The route varies from week to week and includes Lake Lanier, Buford, Crabapple/3 Sisters and other areas in North Fulton, Forsyth and occasionally Cherokee Counties. Look for distances ranging from 40 to 50+ miles and occasionally longer. Our rides are usually pretty hilly so the average speed for the entire ride is typically around 16 to17 mph. This is a "no drop" ride but we will to go into A/B mode on days when we have a mixed group of riders so everyone has a good experience. When we do this someone who knows the route will always remain with the B group. We depart from Lifetime Fitness in Peachtree Corners, just north of Dunwoody. For directions. go to:

1 - Swap Meet Details - The PC3 "Bike Stuff" SwapMeet is this Sunday, June 25 At Lifetime Fitness Peachtree Corners. You can bring anything bike related that you want including bikes, parts, electronics, etc.. Buy, sell trade or give away, whatever you want to do. I think most everyone will be ok with cash, check and possibly PayPal. We will start at 1 PM and go until 4. We will gather in the parking lot where we park for rides. Lifetime will open up the facility to PC3 so you can cool off afterward with a swim or a cool beverage! I am also inviting the Bikes+Life folks to join us. Contact me if you have any questions.

2 - Alert - Sunday Ride Update - Based on feedback from you guys I'm going to try an experiment with our Sunday ride. There are a distinct grup of you who like a 7 AM start and another group who like a later (8 AM) start so I am going to put both on the calendar and see how it works. Both will meet at Lifetime Peachtree Corners. I will likely do the later ride so I need to get leadership for the earlier. Danny James and I have talked and he thinks he can do it most of the time but I would like to have some other volunteers. I also expect that the 7 AM ride may be slightly faster and with fewer stops. Let's try this and see how it works. See below for setails.
